"Cowford House" Eridge
We have now completed restoration works on this beautiful Grade 2 listed Oast house in conjunction with Period Oak.
Cowford House suffered significant fire damage in 2008, completely destroying the upper part of the property. This exciting project involved Sovereign working closely with local conversation officers to ensure that this magnificent building was restored back to its original condition. Traditional methods were used to restore Cowford House including oak framing and lime plastering all carried out by local craftsmen.
Day to day liaison with the client who lived on-site was vital to finishing the property to their exacting requirements, whilst also meeting the needs of the building control and conservation authorities.
The oast was restored with a new cowl, new bathroom and kitchen fittings and an oak floor to return this old building into a habitable dwelling beyond the owners initial expectations.
Having seen their home virtually destroyed, it was vital we worked as sympathetically as possible to the local environment, maintaining the magnificent gardens, flora and fauna.
Several salvaged items with significant emotional value were incorporated back into the new construction and the building handed back for occupation to the client’s great delight.
